Giving In
I’ve been joking with my slam-friends that making this site was me “giving in” to accept that I’m a spoken word performer now, rather than just someone who sometimes writes poetry and sometimes performs it. But honestly, I’ve been doing a lot of work on spoken-word stuff, I may as well admit to it.
I’m trying to get together enough material to make a small, haphazard chapbook, which I intend to call “Preface” or “Prelude”, as I don’t feel prepared to put together a real, thoughtful book of poetry/prose/whatnot. I’m actually excited to work some things that have just been shelved writing exercises, or random literary exhalations that were never reconsidered or edited. I’ve been asked enough times as to whether I have a chapbook or CD to sell to folks, that it was more than time to put something, even if it is just a preliminary piece thrown together in anticipation of WOWps.
I’ve been sketching non-stop for the past few days, though I’m a pretty poor artist outside of photography. I can sketch well enough that one can recognize the silhouette of a man or woman as not being horribly disfigured, which was as much as I needed to do for some flyers for MN Mic. Tidied it up in photoshop, and ta-da! some not half-bad promo for MN Mic and the local spoken word scenes. Rockstar.
So, friends? What do you think? Preface or Prelude? What do I put on the cover of such a thing?

Prelude sounds too…something like snooty or arty, I guess. Preface is good. You might consider modifying it: Preface to (Something).
Are you going to post some of your stuff?
I was leaning towards Preface as well- more literary, less about music. I *am* going to post some of my stuff- I just hadn’t decided what yet.
hey, nice blog! Now I have this image of a bunch of artists in something like AA: Hi, my name is Cole, and I’m a poet.”
“HIII COOOOLE.”
