Bike Love (video)
Performing at That’s What She Said- a fundraiser for the Women of the World poetry slam attendees from the twin cities.
This is a favorite poem of lots of bicyclists out there, and it makes me really happy when someone tells me that this is just how they feel. My bike is named the “Pretty Little Bomb”, but she’s swift in this poem, more like a bullet than a bomb. Names of previous bikes: Mercury and Frankenstein-Bike. I actually own four bikes right now, but three of them are Burning Man bikes in various states of rust and disrepair.
One of the final lines was added to the piece a few months after I wrote it, something I yelled at a friend who pranked me by letting the air out of my tires. “I don’t wear my heart on my sleeve; I ride it on city streets!” I was so upset at the time- I don’t think I realized it was such a soft point for me.
