Charlie Kaufman- Haiku

I have a big ole crush on Charlie Kaufman’s screenwriting. Being John Malkovitch is brilliant- I still sing “Malkovitch, Malkovitch” and joke about intermediate floors. Adaptation was beautiful and hilarious and a favorite movie- when I see crappy romance movies, I imagine crocodiles on the floor of the bedroom to ratchet it up a notch. Eternal Sunshine makes me ache hungry for that sort of connection, I saw myself in every character, living reckless and proud and desperate. And then I saw Synechdoche and I was in Charlie Kaufman heaven, it was Charlie Kaufman to the Charlie Kaufman degree, and my friends who’d gone with me were like, “We love Charlie Kaufman, but this was just too much.” I disagreed, and wrote him this love haiku.

Oh, Charlie Kaufman
I thought only little girls
played with dollhouses.
