Taste

At last night’s slam, I did a new piece about the ridiculousness of analyzing one’s own life with Facebook applications. I wrote it as a part of the lunar cycle writing period that Sierra suggested I do with the Intangibles, kind of out of exhaustion- it was the end of the night and I’d not yet written anything.
Now, I considered this kind of throwaway. Dave, on the other hand, latches onto the poems I like least, and makes me perform them. A performance piece called “Aphasia” is one of the poems that entered my poetic playlist this spring, much to my horror, and become my “big guns” piece, which makes me a little sad, as I consider *most* of my other poems better than it. Ultimately, though, as a performing writer, I’ve come to understand that what the audience likes is just as important as what I like. And Dave probably has a better angle on what the audience likes.

That doesn’t mean *I* have to like it.
